Doesn't this just remind your of a county fair???? I love fairs – everything from the cotton candy to the carmel apples…the smells and the sounds of people screaming for their lives on the rides…the kids holding mom & dad's hand as they walk the midway.
I have so many fond memories of the county fair. Something you may not know about me…I used to raise, train and show horses when I was a teen. The county fair was a HUGE deal. We trailered up our horses in the August heat and headed for the grounds where we stayed for 4 days. The dorms were a huge hit with us – so much giggling and horsing around. Saturday was the big show day – I showed in several different categories – western pleasure, horsemanship, showmanship and then the racing competitions – barrel racing and pole bending. I always went home with several trophies and lots of great memories.
I found this photo in a box of old photos…this was a fabulous horse. What a beauty! His name was Shane, an Arabian Palomino and I got him as "green broke" – meaning he had been ridden, but didn't have much training. We spent every weekend in the summer getting up before dawn – loading horses and heading to one of the many horse shows in the state of Wisconsin…just gearing up for that big FAIR!
