Welcome to the TOTALLY TECHNIQUES BLOG HOP! We have a fabulous design this month called a FUN FRONT FLIP CARD. I didn’t get a chance to make a video before I left for the Thanksgiving holiday but I was able to create an adorable card and take lots of pictures for a step-by-step photo tutorial – YAY!
I chose the CLASSIC WEDDING BUNDLE – super fun and the car is a symmetrical design which is perfect for the FLIP technique.
STEP 1:
I started with a Basic White card base (8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″) scored at 4 1/4″ on the long side. I stamped the outline car image in Basic Gray Ink in the center of the card front. Notice that I put pencil marks on the card front to show the center (at 2 1/8″ from the right edge). This is a 2-step stamp so I added the color to the car by stamping the bold image with Petal Pink Ink.
STEP 2:
I secured the die in place with temporary tape. I then brought the top cutting plate up to the center of the front layer so when I run it through my die cutting machine it will only cut half of the car.
You can see in the photo below that only half of the car is die cut.
STEP 3:
Place your card in your trimmer and score from the bottom to the car at 2 1/8″. Score again from the top of the card front to the car. Now you will fold that back on the front to create a flap.
STEP 4:
Measure the car on the front – from the right edge to the car and from the top to the car. Apply those measurements to the inside of the card and the right side of the card to stamp the cars in the same place. This works really well if you have a stamp positioner tool like the Stamparatus. But since we do not sell that anymore I wanted to show you that this can be done without it.
STEP 5:
With the front flap folded back, lay a 2″ x 5 3/4″ piece of Petal Pink cardstock on the left flap. NOTICE that this layer is longer than your card. It’s easier to trim the top and bottom off after you emboss it in Step 6 – embossing tends to make the cardstock shrink a little – TRUST me on this one ;-). Secure the die in place – it will pop right into place on the portion of the car that you have already die cut and run through your die cutting machine.
STEP 6:
Place your die cut Petal Pink layer in an embossing folder. I used the DISTRESSED TILE 3D EMBOSSING FOLDER (a small pattern works best). Die cut. Adhere to flap and trim top and bottom to fit.
Stamp and die cut the elements shown below. I used Granny Apple Green Ink for the foliage, Petal Pink ink for the banner outline and Basic Gray Ink for the sentiment.
Adhere the elements as shown and embellish with the IRIDESCENT FACETED GEMS (163368).
I added a few Petal Pink hearts and stamp “congratulations” on the inside car with Basic Gray Ink.
This is such a fun little bundle!
I can’t wait to make an entire set of these cards – this would make a perfect gift for someone from a large family or a young couple with lots of weddings in their future!
Thanks so much for checking out my cards!

I’m excited to try this technique when my stamp and die set arrive. Thanks for your beautiful photos explaining the steps. Love that idea too! Very well written and explained.
Thanks so much Penny – it’s so fun! Good luck – let me know if you have any questions. Just remember to mark with a pencil so that you can stamp all three images the same distance from the top and left edge of each panel – I did mine wrong the first time.
